Fitting the 24v Cosworth engine into a 2.9 XR4X4

Fitting The Engine

Important:- MAKE A NOTE OF THE ENGINE NUMBER. You will not see it when fitted; it is on the face where the bell housing bolts on at the back of the engine.

I have found that the best way to fit this engine is through the bottom after removing the cross-member and the anti-roll bar; this method will allow the gearbox to drop down and makes an easy job of bolting up the bell housing.

Once the engine is bolted to the bell-housing take the time to fit up your exhaust down pipes, you will need to use the flanges from the 24v and weld them to your old down pipes (believe me its easier this way),but if you do not fancey doing the welding, you could contact TOP BOSS (on links page)as they can supply you new tubular down pipes.

The tubular down pipes will also give you slightly more power so its worth while going this route.

When fitting this engine you might end up with no skin on your knuckles. you can also notice that the standard XR4x4 throttle cable matches up with the cosworth linkage

Engine3
When lifting in to place be careful of the ABS valve body
Engine4
Some where down here there is the steering gear...
It also is a good idea to use the Granada oil filter extension with the oil to water cooler for two reasons:

1. It keeps the oil temp down

2. It makes life easy with oil filter changes(as seen below)

Engine5

The remaining thing i should mention is the power stearing, you will find the cosworth granada hoses will match up exept one,This is the pipe that connects from the power stearing pump to the rack, it is secured with a flanged plate, this flanged plate needs to be up the other way. What i did is saw out a small section so as to remove the plate and replaced it up the other way, nice easy solution
